I'm leaving Neopolis.


That was a dramatic pause, but no, this leave of absence won't be permanent. I'm only going for a business trip, and I shouldn't be too long on this one in the least. My plane leaves on Wednesday morning, and I should be back among you all -- or the remainder of you all -- by next weekend at the very latest.

Best of all about this trip? The curious can ask me where I'm going this time, and I can even give them a straight answer about it. No need for secrets, no need for guesses. It's a brave new world of transparency I'm living in, and that's a truly marvelous thing.

Don't miss me too much, darlings. Doing that is my job, and no one can take it away from me.

There are a few things that could use sprucing up, but like Scarlett O'Hara running through the Georgia pine, I'm glad to say that my house is still there. With that, I can confirm:

VICTORY/BIRTHDAY PARTY. Tomorrow, January 19 at 1962 Fleming Drive. Begins at 8:00 PM, continues until whenever we decide we've had enough. There will be food and drink, provided by myself and the divine Annie Brewski. There will be cake, provided by the crazily generous Jennifer Lee. There will be music. There will be dancing. There will be no dress code, or need to bring anything, unless you'd really like to. Just come as you are to drink and be merry on the occasion of a hard-fought victory.

And, everyone who can read this is invited. Everyone.

I'm glad we've emerged from this situation together, darlings, and I look forward to our celebration together very much. See you there.

Today was my 20th birthday. My mother decided to celebrate by trying to kill me, but she should have remembered that it's genetically encoded not to go down without a fight.

So, an announcement. Hopefully we will be back in Neopolis very, very soon. When we return, there will be a party. It will be a party to celebrate not only my own missed birthday, but Hanselle's, and anyone else's that was missed because of VILLAIN. It will be a party to celebrate our victory over these people, too, because I don't care that that they can read this: we are coming for what's left of you, and you should be shaking in your boots because of it.

And, what the hell: while we're at it, why don't we make it a party to celebrate the recent nuptials that have apparently taken place on Dr. Sin's island, too?

If my house is still there, the party will be at 1962 Fleming Drive. There will be music. There will be dancing. There will be alcohol, loads and loads of it, because we've worked hard to deserve every last drop. It will also be 100% free. For the benefit of the Science ladies, I hope there will be a pole. And everyone is invited. I don't care what your affiliation is. If this is a victory party, we all deserve it. Faculty members, if you can put aside the teacher-student boundaries of professionalism for one evening, you're more than welcome, too.

Victory is imminent. I look forward to the party so much, and to seeing all of you there, happy and healthy and whole. Cheers.

Taken during eighteen hours of hardcore skiing at Lake Tahoe with the old man, chased by an evening of free food and fancy dress. It's not the sort of thing that's supposed to pair well with exams -- more like a red with fish, but honestly, but I'm so glad to have this break. Best of luck to all and sundry as we go back from hitting the slopes to the books and finish up the last of our tests. Almost there!

(Oh, and don't mind the hair. I was in a wig mood on the slopes.)

A very belated thanks to all those who showed up to Sex in the Dark last Thursday evening! I can't tell you how excited I was to see that our little get-together went so smoothly, all things considered. Thanks a million to all of our panelists, and all of the wonderful people who put their heads together to plan the rest of it. Thanks of course to Amy Andreatta, of course, without whom this would still only be an idea instead of something that actually happened.

I hope people learned something useful, or at the very least, enjoyed themselves in the process. Cheers, darlings.

Sex: whether you identify with the BHH or the ELE, it's something that most people at this age have all sorts of hang-ups, concerns and questions about.

With that in mind, please consider this post the official invitation to Neopolis' student council-sponsored Sex in the Dark this Thursday evening. The goal of Sex in the Dark is to serve as a safe space to submit your questions (and hopefully get good answers!) about sex and relationships at an age when getting comprehensive, accurate information about these things is an absolute must. Questions will be submitted anonymously at the beginning of the event, and after all the lights are turned out, a diverse selection of volunteers will be taking to the stage in order to answer them as best we can. Our very own Dr. Roux will also be on hand to lend her professional medical opinion to our answers.

All members of the Neopolis community are welcome. We'll be gathering in the small auditorium next to the campus library. In addition to information, we also offer free food, which is reason enough in itself for you to drop by. It'll be an evening that is both informational and entertaining, so I do hope I'll see as many of you there as possible. Or not see as many of you there as possible? It's the dark, after all, darling.

I pinky swore with Vice President Andreatta to be the brains of this operation, and on that sacred trust I intend to deliver.

So, let me get another show of hands: those of you who are interested in contributing to the Sex in the Dark event, please let me know in the comments of this entry, won't you? It seemed like a popular idea when it was first proposed, but who knows. Some things are more amusing in the middle of the night than they are in the middle of the day. If there's large turnout, I can't guarantee that all people who volunteer will get to have a role outside of spectating, if there's small turnout, your chances are better -- though, as we all know, it's not about the size of the turnout as much as it is what you do with it.

(This post contains sexual content, though if you can't tell that kind of thing from the name 'Sex in the Dark,' I'm afraid there's not very much hope for you at all.)
